It seems like only yesterday we were sharing the Dynamics 365 Business Central Wave 1 updates, but Microsoft doesn’t hang about when it comes to improving their products. The Wave 2 2023 release promises even more integrations, advanced AI, and an enhanced user experience.
We’ll be running through a few of the planned features set to be rolled out from October 2023, but if you want to take a look at the full release for yourself, head to Microsoft’s website.
Wave 2 2023 planned features
Next-level AI
The Dynamics 365 Business Central Wave 1 2023 release saw the introduction of Copilot, and the Wave 2 update is set to take this advanced AI-powered assistant to the next level. Boost your productivity with cutting-edge new features designed to support SMBs, including marketing text suggestions and complete bank account reconciliation.
Power Platform Integrations
Wave 2 is set to make automating tasks even easier with a range of intuitive templates and access to context-related information whenever you need it. The new embedded Power Apps promise to bring new life to business scenarios, helping you to adapt faster and take control of your data. Check out some of the new features below.
- Bulk updates: The limit for Power Automate flows has been upped from 100 to 1,000 rows, enabling you to process large datasets and more advanced scenarios smoothly with better automation.
- Business events: The 2023 Wave 1 release saw the introduction of the external business events feature as a preview, enabling extendable integration scenarios. Wave 2 will make this update available to all users, making it possible to build flows that react to specific business events.
- Virtual tables and the Dataverse: With the help of virtual tables, you can share data between Business Central and Dataverse seamlessly, eliminating the need for manual duplicate data entry or additional customisations.
- Power BI: Wave 2 is set to bring even more capabilities to the Power BI embedded experience, offering you greater flexibility and more advanced data visualisation in Business Central.
Seamless Onboarding
Take customer onboarding further with additional capabilities to improve the overall experience. From greeting new users with dynamic customisable welcome banners to speeding up the onboarding process with the option to assign roles to users on sign-up, these new features are set to make onboarding seamless and stress-free in 2023.
Development
This wave will unlock a new level of productivity with a range of new features set to empower developers to do more while lowering the cost of changes. Some of the proposed features are outlined below.
- Visual Studio Code: with Wave 2 2023, developers can wave goodbye to the tedious manual Visual Studio Code setup process with the ability to open a local Visual Studio Code session from within the web client.
- Data analysis mode: the Wave 1 2023 release saw the introduction of data analysis mode, giving users a new way of interacting with data on list pages. Whilst this mode is set on all list pages, it isn’t always relevant. To overcome this, the Wave 2 update will allow users to turn off the analysis mode on any pages and query objects that aren’t suited for analytical usage, and specify how to embed content from Power BI.
- Rich text editor: enter data and action changes with ease with the built-in rich text editor. This new feature offers an intuitive way to create content in Business Central, reducing the time, effort and specialist knowledge needed to complete such tasks.
Reporting and Data Analysis
Unlock actionable insights with ease with more analysis and reporting capabilities available directly in the Business Central app. From greater analysis mode options to advanced Power BI reports and readily available insights via the report explorer page, Wave 2 promises to offer users fast access to the insights they need without leaving Business Central.
We’re looking forward to welcoming the Wave 2 updates later this year and putting Microsoft’s latest features into action for our clients.
