The UK Film Council has reported positive figures for British moviemaking.

The UK Film Council has launched its first fully digital statistical yearbook to reveal facts and figures relating to people using film software.

It revealed that UK film exports were 92 per cent higher in 2008 than in 2001, totalling £1.3 billion, while 71 domestic feature films were made in 2009, a slight decrease on 77 in 2008.

UK box office reached record levels in 2009, bring in a total of £944 million.

"These figures are clear evidence of the UK's thriving film industry and its valuable contribution to our economy and cultural life," said Ed Vaizey MP, the minister for culture, creative industries and communications.

John Woodward, chief executive officer of the UK Film Council, stated that in terms of value, jobs and overall contribution to the economy it has been "a truly great year" for the industry, which is "more than punching above its weight".

It has recently been reported that film software may soon be in use for a new movie about the life of former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
