Production costing software might have helped Christopher Nolan to make Inception.

Production costing software may have proved useful for director Christopher Nolan while creating his latest big-budget movie Inception.

The Guardian reports Warner Brothers put $160 million (£104 million) into the production and provided a further $100 million for marketing worldwide.

In its opening weekend the film topped the US charts with an estimated takings of $60.4 million and in addition to that took $15 million in a handful of international markets, including the UK.

Writer Jeremy Kay suggests it is positive to see that people are already at a stage where they are willing to go to see a film they know little about "simply because it belongs to a director they admire".

He added that alone is something of a small victory for the movie industry.

The Daily Mail has recently reported the Schlinder's List and Saving Private Ryan director Steven Spielberg may soon be making use of film software on Dartmoor as part of the production of his next movie.
