A live action version of The Little Mermaid is set to hit the big screen.

Film software is set to be used by British director Joe Wright in the creation of a live action film version of the The Little Mermaid.

Wright - who is best known for Pride and Prejudice and the Oscar-winning movie Atonement - is yet to reveal any details about casting but Abi Morgan, who also wrote Brick Lane, is said to have handled scripting duties.

Previously the Hans Christian Andersen story - which tells the tale of a young mermaid who falls in love and gives up her life - was adapted for the big screen by Disney in 1990 and scooped two Oscars.

Wright's most recent film, Hanna, starring Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana, is currently in post-production.
It has recently been announced that a two-day film festival is set to showcase the use of film software by students around the UK.

The Inspire Film Festival at the Assembly Rooms will be held on July 17th and 18th in Tamworth
