Hollywood director Martin Scorsese has given his backing the BFI Most Wanted campaign.

Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has lent his support to the British Film Institute's (BFI) search for 75 of the 'most wanted' movies from the history of film in the UK.

Scorsese - famed for directing films such as The Departed and Goodfellas - said: "BFI Most Wanted is the kind of initiative that every country should undertake. It is vitally important work that needs to be done."

The BFI National Archive stated it is committed to filling the gaps in the national film collection and is asking the nation to help with its search to preserve and make titles that were thought to be lost available once more.

Films included in the collection range from 1983 movie Where Is Parsifal, starring Orson Welles, to Hitchcock's second film The Mountain Eagle.

The BFI was established in 1933 to promote understanding and appreciation of film and television heritage and culture. It also runs a variety of services and activities.
