Danny Boyle to oversee production of Olympic launch
Thu Jun 17 2010 13:58British director Danny Boyle is set to oversee the launch of the 2012 Olympics.
British director Danny Boyle has been signed up to be the artistic director for the Olympics opening ceremony for London 2012.The Oscar-winning director, from Manchester, might make use of media software during the process of overseeing the launch of the event, which will also be worked on by director Stephen Daldry who is one of four other "creatives" involved.
Boyle said it was a "unique opportunity to contribute to what I'm sure are going to be a fantastic Games".
Jeremy Hunt, secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport, said: "I am very pleased that British directors and producers of such outstanding international calibre and acclaim have given their backing to London 2012."
The production centre for the London 2012 ceremonies will be 3 Mills Studios in east London.
Boyle is known for his work on films such as Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later and The Beach.
