A host of movies debuting at EIFF could have made use of film software.

Toy Story 3 is among the films that are set to premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), which gets underway today (June 16th).

Film software may have played an important part in the creation of the third installment of the animated movie and it will be given its first UK airing at the event a full month before it goes on general release.

Screenwriter-director Sylvain Chomet's The Illusionist - a more traditional animation, adapted from French comedy legend Jacques Tati's previously unmade script - is set to open the EIFF this evening at the Festival Theatre.

A host of up-and-coming British filmmakers will also be showcased at the festival including Soulboy and Just Before Dawn, which both may have used budgeting software and are in contention to receive gongs.

According to a recent report published by the UK Film Council, the film industry in this country directly employs approximately 36,000 people.
