The cost of business processes can be cut through investing in desktop virtualisation.

Virtualisation can help cut the long-term costs of business processes.

Fleur Doidge, writing for CRN, noted that while short-term financial benefits are unlikely, virtualisation could bring with it "significant cost savings" over a few years.

Desktop virtualisation is one area where businesses could look to invest, Lionel Lamy, European software and services research director at International Data Corporation (IDC), told Ms Doidge.

IDC research shows desktop virtualisation is a top priority for businesses with more than 250 staff in 2010, as the impact of costs in infrastructure comes under intense scrutiny once again.

Companies are also looking to align their business processes with IT as a priority, Mr Lamy said.

He commented: "IT services are an engine of growth and desktop virtualisation addresses the cost and quality problems of infrastructure delivery."
