The Home Office's enterprise resource planning project is resulting in significant cost-savings, it has been stated.

Moves by the government to introduce enterprise resource planning (ERP) software are set to deliver major cost savings, it has been reported.

With the final phase of a three-year project now in the place, the Home Office reports that ERP solutions are being used in areas such as finance, procurement and human resources.

The first fully-integrated ERP system to be introduced by a central government body, the Shared Business Services has not only been able to improve productivity for the office, it has also enhanced supply management processes.

Thanks to the accounting software improvements, it was revealed 93 per cent of supplier invoices are paid within 26 days, up from the 70 per cent recorded five months ago.

John Collington, Home Office group commercial director and programme director, points out that the programme "is now delivering tangible benefits to the business", with predicted cost savings to be between £40 and £50 million.

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands government noted that the seven days following the introduction of ERP resulted in a 95 per cent success rate.ADNFCR-3018-ID-19601256-ADNFCR
